Hi Parents!
Today let's talk about the Letter Mm Worksheet Lesson.
To teach the letter Mm, the teacher downloads a worksheet that contains pictures of various objects.
She tells the children to color and draw circles around objects that start with the letter Mm, such as a mug, a mitten, and a muffin.

While this lesson is very commonplace, some kids may struggle with this lesson. As such, here are 3 tips for improvement.
Tip #1: Mirror the same thought processes as used in the real life context.
We must keep in mind that the overall goal is for the child to use the letter Mm in real life reading and writing contexts.
As such, it is best that a lesson reflect the very same thought processes required to apply the information in the real life activity.
A child may struggle with this lesson because merely coloring and circling pictures of objects that start with the letter Mm is not a clear enough or direct enough step toward reading words with the letter Mm.
Tip #2: Be wary of teaching the letters one at a time.
One common belief is that because children are young, we need to take it easy on them and teach them information piecemeal. For example, we need to teach one letter at a time.
However, learning tiny, separate pieces of information can easily make the info seem random. As such, the information is not memorable and the child can struggle to apply it to the real life context.
For these kids, it is better to present the letters the way they actually appear and work, all together, such as on birthday cards.
Tip #3: Worksheets are questionable formats for presenting information to kids.
Although they are widespread, worksheets are actually a very abstract format of presenting information and better suited for older kids and adults (people who can read and write fluently.)
Not only are worksheets a "pen and paper" activity, but the circling, drawing lines, and other markers are all abstract concepts.
Young children struggle with abstract thinking and thus need information to be presented in a much more concrete and child-friendly manner than a worksheet.
I hope your have found this information helpful for you and your child.
