What Happens During the Free Reading & Spelling Root-Cause Diagnostic
During the diagnostic, we will pinpoint exactly where your child is struggling and why.
Your child will read a short passage they haven't seen before so we can see their current reading level in action. I’ll observe and analyze the mistakes, strengths, and strategies your child uses while reading.
If you have a sample of the target reading level you want your child to reach, you're welcome to bring it. We’ll compare your child’s current abilities to the reading and spelling level you hope they will reach, and identify exactly what needs to change to reach your goals.
We will also do a writing sample with your child. If you have a sample of your child's work that is truly their own (no adult help, not copied, not corrected) please bring it. If not, I can have your child spontaneously write something during the session, so we can analyze their natural spelling processes.
As your child read and writes, I will carefully observe their errors and successes. This observation helps identify their thought processes, strategies, and where support is needed.

Hi, I'm Ms. Mia and my company is Unique Teach.
With over 20 years of experience working as a certified teacher in early childhood and as a private tutor, I have successfully taught hundreds of kids to read & spell.
These were kids that weren't responding well to many common teaching methods, even though they were highly capable.

Yes. Please have a writing sample that is truly your child's own work. But if you don't have a sample, that's fine- I can have your child spontaneously write something during the session.
If you have a book at the target reading level you want your child to reach, you can bring that too.
The diagnostic takes 30 minutes. During this time, we'll assess your child's reading and spelling, review current methods, and discuss actionable steps.
No, I will not officially assess your child's reading or spelling level, but you can show me a book they are currently reading at school and provide me a sample text of the target level you want them to reach. From there, I can give you guidance on how to help your child achieve the desired reading and spelling levels.
No, I will focus on the instructional methods that will address your child's current reading and spelling challenges.
I will consider the thought processes your child demonstrates while reading and spelling, and provide advice on the best methods to help them improve.
The methods I use are specifically developed and effective for neurodiverse children, such as those with dyslexia, ADHD, and more.
That's completely normal! The session is gentle and supportive. I focus on understanding your child's thinking and strategies in a stress-free environment.
No. This session is designed to give you clarity and insight. You are welcome to explore ongoing support afterward, but there is no obligation.
