Get your child caught up in reading & spelling at home in 3 months!

A proven, accelerated, emergency at-home program for parents of 1st & 2nd graders (6 to 8 year-olds)

  • Are you working with your child on reading & spelling in the home but not seeing the progress you hoped for?

  • Have the typical homeschool curriculums, flashcards, sight word lists, phonics worksheets, alphabet chart drills, workbooks, spelling lists, video games, word sorts, word families, rhyming words, consonant-vowel-patterns, etc. not produced the results you need?

  • Is your child in an emergency situation in which reading or spelling improvement needs to occur quickly?

Whether your child has been formally diagnosed with dyslexia or you suspect dyslexia, you've likely realized that what works for a lot kids doesn't always work for yours.

And that is okay- your child just needs something different.

The good news? With my accelerated, at-home program parents of first and second graders can get their child caught up in their reading & spelling within 3 months!

A proven, at-home, reading & spelling program for parents that produces real, visible results in 3 months

The 3-month, accelerated, at-home program is organized into 3 levels of reading & spelling difficulty- beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

Parents start at beginning level and progress through to the advanced level in a sequential order. The goal is for parents to complete one level each month so that their child is caught up in 3 month's time.

Parents follow a daily schedule so they stay on track to reach their 3-month goal, which includes:

Month One- Beginning level

The purpose of this level is to clean up, review, and solidy the basics, establishing a strong foundation for the child's progress in reading and spelling.

The child decodes and reviews 1335 words total, 216 are original words and the rest are repeats.

The child learns to spell words of the Beginning level.

Month Two- Intermediate level

The child begins the catch-up process, and progresses to working with more advanced words.

The child decodes and reviews 1749 words total, 438 are original words and the rest are repeats.

The child learns to spell words of the Intermediate level.

Month Three-

Advanced

The child reads regular books at their grade level. The goal is to be completely on-level by the end of the third month.

For example, 1st graders read books like the Frog & Toad Series, while 2nd graders read books like Charlotte's Web.

The child learns to spell words of the Advanced level.

  • The reading & spelling content of the program is strategically selected to get first and second graders (6 to 8 year-olds) caught up in their reading & spelling.

  • A key component of the program is live, human help through Google Meet and text messages, where parents learn the necessary methods to teach their child reading & spelling and receive personalized feedback to ensure correct implementation.

  • The instructional methods of this program are tailored to neurodiverse kids, especially those with dyslexia and ADHD.

  • This program does not include common activities such as flashcards, phonics worksheets, rhyming words, cutting & pasting, spelling lists, and similar tasks. These activities are only loosely related to reading & spelling, and do not reflect the real life, actual activity.

  • The goal of the program is to provide the child with genuine, authentic reading & spelling experiences- such as reading & writing of words and sentences by using letter-sound knowledge- so that you see direct, real results in your child's reading & spelling.

  • The 3-month, accelerated, at-home program is sold privately through a Reading & Spelling Strategy Call. The call allows us to discuss your specific goals for reading & spelling, evaluate your child's current reading & spelling skills, identify any challenges, and determine whether the at-home program is the best fit for you and your child. During the call you will have the opportunity to find out all you need to know about the 3-month at-home reading & spelling program.

Sample Reading & Spelling Lesson of the 3-month at-home reading & spelling program

The video below shows a sample reading & spelling lesson from my 3-month at-home reading & speling program.

The process is demonstrated with a basic word ("cat") but is easily adapted for harder words and full sentences.

Why is the at-home program so effective in teaching kids to read & spell?

There are 5 main reasons why this lesson is so effective in teaching children to read & spell:

1) Kids learn to read & spell by engaging exclusively in real-life reading and spelling, without relying on other common activities (such as phonic worksheets, video games, word sorts, etc.) that do not offer genuine, real life experiences.

2) Kids learn reading & spelling by sounding out words using their letter-sound knowledge. With a solid foundation in that letter-sound knowledge, kids truly understand they are doing when they read and spell. Instead of just memorizing lists of sight words, children are able to sound out all words, and thus they take off in their reading & spelling.

An important tool that helps us accomplish these objectives is my reading app for dyslexia, shown in the video below.

My reading app for dyslexia is one of the tools included in the 3-month at-home reading & spelling program.

Sold privately, available only through a free reading & spelling strategy call.

3) Reading & spelling are integrated. By teaching both reading & spelling with the same methods and in the same lesson, kids get double the practice. This approach allows kids to directly apply their reading knowledge to spelling, and vice versa, thereby reinforcing and accelerating their learning.

4) Content is strategically organized. Many kids who struggle have already had plenty of reading & spelling lessons. They have done the worksheets, phonics, flashcards, etc., either at home, at school, or through tutors, and after school programs, so they're already familiar with the content. My 3-month at-home program is carefully structured to help these kids finally piece together all those reading & spelling skills, making everything click and allowing them to finally progress effectively.

5) Live, human assistance (no artificial intelligence) throughout the process helps ensure success. An essential part of the program is live, human parent support, ensuring that you are never left alone with materials and training videos. Through live Google Meet calls and text message support, I provide ongoing guidance, answer your questions, and ensure the methods are implemented correctly so that your child's reading and spelling progress occurs as soon as possible.

Hi, I'm Ms. Mia and my company is Unique Teach.

With over 20 years of experience working as a certified teacher in early childhood and as a private tutor, I truly understand the challenges parents face when their child struggles with reading or spelling at school. Since reading is foundational to every subject, difficulties in reading can impact their child's overall learning.

I am the creator of the emergency, 3-month, at-home program which I developed while working with literally hundreds of kids who were struggling with reading & spelling.

The kids were bright and fully capable of learning to read and write; they simply needed an approach that was different from what they were receiving at school, in after-school programs, or with their tutors.

With my at-home program, 1st or 2nd graders who are behind in reading & spelling can catch up in about 3 months time, provided that parents follow the schedule and methods precisely and consistently. Parents must dedicate the time to work diligently with their child as directed, rather than leaving the child alone with the materials to play or self-teach.

My 3-month, accelerated, at-home reading & spelling program is offered privately, and to get started, we'll begin with a Free Reading & Spelling Strategy Call.

The call allows us to discuss your specific goals regarding reading & spelling, evaluate your child's current reading & spelling skills, pinpoint any challenges, and if it is a good fit, provide personalized guidance for the 3-month at-home program, ensuring that it's as effective as possible.

During the call, you can show me a sample text of the target reading level you need your child to reach.

I encourage you to take the first step and sign up for the Free Reading & Spelling Strategy Call to find out if my 3-month at-home program is a good fit for you and your child.

What happens during the Free Reading & Spelling Strategy Call:

The 3-month at-home program is available privately and the Reading & Spelling Strategy Call is required to access the program.

The Reading & Spelling Strategy Call allows us to carefully assess your specific goals regarding reading & spelling, observe your child's reading & spelling abilities, identify any areas of need, and provide tailored feedback, ensuring that my at-home program will deliver the results that you are looking for.

Important: If you can, please show me a sample text of the target reading level you need your child to reach upon completion of the program.

During the Reading & Spelling Strategy Call we will:

1) Have your child read at their current reading level.

We will have your child read a new story that they haven't encountered before, so we can get a clear picture of their reading abilities. We'll pay attention to any mistakes they make and what they do well. Additionally, we'll ask them questions about words they read correctly to understand their thought process and strategies.

We can use your books or I can provide something for your child to read.

2) Examine a writing sample from your child.

The writing sample should be the child's own work and may include any errors, as the goal is to analyze their natural spelling processes in real-life situations. If possible, please have the writing sample ready for the strategy call; just a few sentences will suffice. If you don't have a sample, or your child is unable to produce one, that's perfectly fine. I can simply dictate some words or sentences for them to write spontaneously during the call.

3) Examine your child's handwriting and how they write the letters.

To observe your child's handwriting (how they produce the letters) it's best to have them write large letters on an easel, whiteboard, or large piece of paper.

4) I will tell you how to reach your reading & spelling goals!

I will provide guidance on how to help your child improve and reach their reading and spelling goals.

To do this effectively, please, if possible, share a sample of text at the target reading level you want your child to reach.

If it's a good fit, I'll share details about my proven, 3-month, accelerated, catch-up at-home program that trains parents how to work effectively with their child on reading & spelling so that they get visible and lasting results quickly.

What Parents Are Saying

Zalla successfully taught her daughter, a second-grader diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD, to read & spell at home with my 3-month at-home program!

Our son Henry, age 8, quietly struggled with school, specifically, reading and spelling. It wasn’t until we spoke to Ms. Mia did we realize he had been memorizing rather than use phonics to sound out the words.  Mia’s method doubled Henry’s reading and spelling scores.  Mia’s instruction is a direct, phonetic foundation to help children read and spell.  Not only did Henry’s scores improve, he gained confidence and now takes the lead to do homework and participate in class.

Mary Ellen

My first-grade son was complaining that it took him longer to complete his work than his peers and it bothered him. With Unique Teach, my son went from reading at level 6 to level 22 and his teacher shared with us that he had the latest increase in reading ability of his entire class. He is now a very confident reader and is really enjoying school. Ms. Mia’s techniques work and her methods are something every parent needs to help their children become the strong, competent, and confident readers they desire them to be.

Jennifer

I've worked in daycares and was very impressed with Ms. Mia's expertise regarding how to teach children reading and spelling. It never occurred to me before that reading and spelling should be taught together. I learned some cool alternative methods that make so much sense. If you want your child to do something different and effective, Ms. Mia has an excellent bag of tricks.

Maria F.

I found the Reading & Spelling Strategy Call to be extremely informative. Ms. Mia's teaching methods are a breath of fresh air. Her methods are innovative and effective. I'm excited and am currently trying out her methods on my child. Her teaching methods should be used in all daycares and schools.

FAQs

Why do children learn reading & spelling so fast with the 3-month at-home program?

There are 5 main reasons why the 3-month at-home program is so effective.

1) Children learn reading and spelling by engaging exclusively in real-life reading and spelling, rather than through activities that are loosely related to them.

For example, worksheets, phonics activities, word sorts, etc. often emphasize isolated skills or tiny pieces of information, like a specific letter sound, and do not reflect the actual, real-life reading and spelling experience.

2) Children learn reading & spelling quickly because of the strong letter-sound foundation it provides.

Kids are taught to sound out words using their letter-sound knowledge. With this solid foundation in place, kids truly understand they are doing when they read and spell, leading to rapid progress.

3) Reading & spelling are integrated. By teaching both reading & spelling in the very same lesson, kids get double the practice, and make connections between what they read and what they spell.

What grades and ages are good for the free Reading & Spelling Strategy Call and at-home reading & spelling program?

I recommend the at-home reading & spelling program for parents of children ages 6 to 8 years, who are in first or second grade.

Why is the at-home reading and spelling program particularly beneficial for children with dyslexia, ADHD, etc?

ANSWER THIS QUESTION

What are your expertise in teaching reading & spelling?

ANSWER THIS QUESTION

How do I organize my time to see results in 3 months?

The program includes a recommended schedule to get your child caught up in reading & spelling in 3 months.

There are 3 levels to the reading & spelling program (beginning, intermediate, advanced) and each month you and your child would complete one level.

Month one- Beginning level (1335 words total, 216 are original words)

Month two- Intermediate level (1749 words total, 438 are original words)

Month three- Advanced level (regular books of child's grade level)

I recommend that parents work with their child 5 days a week for about 50 minutes each session.

It's important to follow the program precisely. This consistent routine ensures steady progress, helps the child retain what they learn from day to day, and leads to more effective, linear growth.

How do I get my child to sit down and work?

Lessons consist of both a reading component and writing (spelling) component, as demonstrated in the Sample Lesson Video on this page. The child alternates between reading and writing, which keeps the session dynamic. Writing is done on a whiteboard with a dry-erase marker, something that kids often find fun and engaging. By weaving in writing throughout the session, children get necessary breaks from reading and can maintain focus for longer periods.

How can children sound out words when there are so many sight words in English that are not phonetic?

ANSWER THIS QUESTION

Why do you have a reading program that includes also spelling?

Dyslexia affects both reading and spelling. Therefore it is wise to address both the reading and spelling simultaneously.

Furthermore, in this program the reading and spelling are integrated, with the child learning to read and spell with the same methods and with the same words. The child reads words and then spells them, directly applying what was learned from reading to spelling, and vice versa. The double practice of practicing reading and then spelling allows for accelerated reading.

Isn't it too hard for a young child to learn reading and spelling together in the same lesson?

No, actually the opposite is true. It is actually EASIER to teach reading & spelling (& handwriting) all together rather than as separate subjects!

Why? Because young kids grasp material more effectively it is presented concretely, the same way it happens in real life, where we read and write together.

Watch the video below for a more thorough explanation!

Do I need to be a trained teacher to use the at-home program?

No, this at-home program is geared for parents who are not trained teachers. While the program includes all the training the parent needs to execute the lessons successfully, the program does require commitment and consistency. During the strategy call we will determine if the at-home program is a good fit for you and your child.

What do I need to do to prepare for the free Reading & Spelling Strategy Call?

Important: It is extremely helpful to show me a sample of text at the target reading level you want your child to reach upon completing the program.

During the Free Reading & Spelling Strategy Call we will:

1) Have the child read at their current reading level.

We will have your child read a story that they have not seen before to get an accurate understanding of how they handle new material. This will help us identify any errors they make and recognize what they do correctly. Additionally, I will ask the child some questions about the words they read successfully to understand their thought processes and strategies.

We can use your books or I can provide something for your child to read.

2) Examine a writing sample from your child.

The writing sample must be the child's own work and include errors, so I can analyze their spelling in real-life situations. Please have the writing sample ready for the strategy call-just a couple of sentences will suffice. If you don't have a sample, that's perfectly fine; I can dictate some words or sentences for your child to write spontaneously during the call.

3) Examine the child's handwriting and how they write the letters.

In order to observe your child handwrite in the video conference, it is best that you have an easel, whiteboard, or large piece of paper.

4) I will tell you how you can reach your reading & spelling goals!

I will offer advice on how to help your child improve further and achieve their reading and spelling goals.

For this step, it's helpful to provide a sample text at the target reading level you'd like your child to reach within 3 months.

If it's a good fit, I'll share details about my proven, at-home reading & spelling program that teaches you how to work effectively with your child on reading and spelling so that you get results fast.

Are you going to diagnose my child with dyslexia, ADHD, autism, etc. during the free Reading & Spelling Strategy Call?

No, I will focus on the instructional methods that will address your child's current reading and spelling challenges.

I will consider the thought processes your child demonstrates while reading and spelling, and provide advice on the best methods to help them improve.

The methods I use are specifically developed for neurodiverse children, such as those with dyslexia, ADHD, and more.

Are you going to assess my child's reading and spelling level during the free Reading & Spelling Strategy Call?

No, I will not officially assess your child's reading or spelling level, but you can show me a book they are currently reading at school and provide me a sample text of the target level you want them to reach. From there, I can give you guidance on how to help your child achieve the desired reading and spelling levels.

How can I ask questions regarding the free Reading & Spelling Strategy Call that are not covered in these FAQs?
